FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does kayetana use open-source pieces itself?

Yes. Models run via Ollama, and every bundled model is openly licensed (Apache 2.0 or MIT). kayetana ties them together into a platform with a UI, an API and admin tools.

Can I bring my own models?

Yes. You load new models by name from the Ollama library and set a default model for each task. With fine-tuning, you can also train your own variants.

What would I need to think about when building it myself?

Besides the models, you'd need a UI, users and roles, API keys with limits, citations, usage tracking, HTTPS and backups. And you'd have to maintain and update every part.

Can I build kayetana into my own tools through the API?

Yes. The REST API under /v2 covers chat, embed, rerank, classify, tokens, transcription, datasets and fine-tuning. You can build your own tools on top of it.
